Always Yours, 2012, Somi Ekhasomhi ***

After reading novels about war and hardship, "Always Yours" was kind of a breath of fresh air. Though, romance novels are not my forte, I enjoyed this read. And the cover, purple flowery. Quite inviting, isn't it? Your perfect romance chick-lit.

Sophie had a crush on Michael, she was sceptical about his own feelings towards her, that she thought his only intention might be only to sleep with her. So, she ignored him and let him go. Some years later, when Michael finally came back from United States of America, they met in a party and decided to rekindle their relationship one more time. That was when it dawned on her that believe it or not Michael has most probably always been in love with her since the first time he saw her. Nonetheless, there was a small inconvenience, Michael was engaged and about to get married. The question now is, who is Michael going to spend his whole life with? Sophie his unforgettable love? Or Folake his drop-dead gorgeous fiancee?

Somi did a good job writing this novel, the Lagos I read about here is totally different from the Lagos in "GraceLand by Chris Abani". Here you visualise middle class working Nigerians living a normal life as we all know that they have.
I am not trying to ignore the naked truth that the country has got major problems to deal with. However, it is rather gratifying to read also about people, whose major and only concern is to fall in or out of love. It was a refreshing fast and easy read. A novella. A love story with a happy ending. Actually, I would have appreciated a little bit of twist in the story.

All the same, I recommend mostly to romance and chick- lit lovers. The promising author Somi Ekhasomhi is the owner of the blog Lagos Romance Series.

Thank you Somi for sending me a copy of your beautiful novel.

    2. Mary I must confess , wonderful work you are doing here. This , like others , I hope will help reinvent the reading culture of Africans, Nigerians especially , as we have lost it to music and other jaboree of the entertainment and fashion industry , leaving our education substandard and value zero . Will love to call your attention back to your reviews. I read them , loved them , but you will be doing a highly commendable work if you also place much emphasis on settings ,and other literary tools ; Secondly , can you give your blog a more suitable name , let's say 'African books review ' , or something more formal , carrying an African indentity ; bringing in other genre of literature :poem and drama, will be more calling ,sophisticated and highly educative. My name is emahh ohale , an aspiring author , and I hope some day you will review my own book(s). stay blessed , more strenght .
