Your starting point on African literature reviews, and more.
I'm a voracious reader who takes real pleasure in books by African writers. My love for books led me to Shelfari back in 2009, and from there I went looking for African literature blogs. I couldn't find any I loved, so I decided to create Mary Okeke Reviews myself. Funnily enough, once I started, I discovered plenty of other blogs championing African literature with just as much passion.
You'll still find a few reviews here that stray outside African literature; I can't resist a good book wherever it's from. All in all, I hope you enjoy your time here, and please don't hesitate to leave a comment.
Review Policy
I've been asked to read and review quite a number of novels over the years, and I've turned down a fair few too, so I thought it was time to put my policy in writing. I primarily review African literature.
- All books sent to me are considered for review.
- I read the first few pages. If they hook me, I'll devour the rest.
- I write out of passion, not obligation. I owe myself and my readers honesty, so you'll always get my genuine opinion.
- If you'd like your novel reviewed by a specific date, please contact me 6–8 weeks beforehand.
- I prefer hard copies.
- I reserve the right to accept or decline any request.
- Reviews are shared on my blog, Goodreads, Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.

Mary - I hope this is a good way to communicate with you. Just want you to know that my Africa Trilogy was completed on January 15 with release of my final book, "Africa's Heart." This book and the two previous ones, "Africa's Embrace" and "Africa's Release" are available on Amazon.com. If you provide me with a mailing address, I will send to you complementary copies. ReplyDeleteHi Juma,
DeleteThanks. I will try.
Mary, great work here! I have been touring the site and I love it.
ReplyDeleteI have a publisher for my book, but need to ensure it gets the exposure that it requires.
I wonder if you'd find time to Review it? It meets the requirements of your books to review, but I know you could be "tied up." If you let me have your email I 'll send the first 3 -5 chapters to you in required format.
Thanks!
DeleteHello, Mary. I found your blog through a comment you left on Nana Prah's blog. I'm in deep admiration of what you're doing here, reviewing African literature. I am a writer myself, and must say that I was a bit gutted to find out you don't review speculative fiction books, since that is what I write primarily. Anyway, keep up the good work, and do feel free to drop by over at my blog someday:
