You've got some interesting titles. The Infidels is one I'll read some time. Tricia's book is not available in Ghana.
ReplyDeleteIts a pity Nwaubani's book is not available in Ghana. It is one you would enjoy. It is available in amazon. Infidel, the story is "uncroyable" however it is real. There was a time I came across a free copy in a book fair, I did not take it cos I already have a copy. Next time I would find a more interesting way of giving them away.
DeleteI currently own 3 of your top 10 reads and 2 more are already on my TBR list. I tried to read Infidel and couldn't get through it.
ReplyDeleteMy "Things Fall Apart" cover doesn't look like the one shown here. I like this one better!
Hey Shannon, my "Things Fall Apart" is the latest version published in 2006 (there around)by the Penguins books.
DeleteWhy couldn't you go through "Infidel" a disturbing read? or it was not engaging? Try go through it, it worth the effort at the end.
Which other novel do you own apart from this two? Which 2 are on your TBR list?
A Long Way Gone was on my TBR and I recently added Changes per your recommendatoin :)
DeleteI also own I Do Not Come to You by Chance an Half a Yellow Sun.
When I wrote about not finishing Infidel, the response was the same as yours. I told myself I'd get back to it last year but I never did. I wrote about why I didnt finish it here .
Interesting, I just left you a comments. It amazed me you had to give up "Infidel". I am looking forward to reading your review on "I do not come to you by chance". I hope you would understand it and like it. "I was rolling in the aisle" when I read it. You know the language used and etc...
DeleteI am also looking forward to reading your review on changes, A long way gone and half of a yellow sun.
Cheers.
I love them title mary ! the reviews are interesting
ReplyDeleteWonderful compilation, Mary. I love Buchi and I have some reviews on my blog of her books, Joys of Motherhood and The New Tribe. I have the Bride Price on my TBR. I have also read Achebe's Trilogy and I must say that Things Fall Apart and Arrow of God are my favourites. I am eager to read Tricia's novel as I have heard so much about it.
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed New Year, Mary
Buchi Emecheta's novel are superb. Although, I was somewhat disappointed with "The New Tribe" in any case it was not that bad.
DeleteI have read and commented on your reviews of her 2 novels you've read. You would enjoy the Bride Price.... a slow beginning and few pages more it's a page turner. I see you enjoying it.
You know what.. I couldn't delve into Arrow of God. I got the message but the reading was not that easy.
Celestine I am looking forward to reading book reviews on your blog this year. Thank you for stopping by.
I wish you a blissful and peaceful new year.
Pretty brilliant selections. Some I have read and others I have not. Will look out for those I have not. Thanks Mary.
